Rotel started out as an appliance manufacturer. The company’s history started in 1948, with the manufacture of a fan. However, that year’s rainy summer meant that the product only sold in modest numbers. The clever fitters then equipped the fan with a heating device, launching their resulting innovative product under the name “Rotel Climaboy Hot Air Blower” over the following winter. The name of the Rotel brand is derived from these rotating blades (“rotierenden Flügeln” in German). The market success of this shrewd solution spurred the company’s founder onto greater efforts: production expanded and household appliances of all descriptions were manufactured over the course of subsequent years. Rotel later developed into a business involved purely in trading, but it has retained its technical competence to this day. Rotel AG has been in family ownership since 2008, and has been managed by an independent entrepreneur. In the spring of 2012, the company relocated its headquarters from its original home of Aarburg in Switzerland to a comprehensively renovated industrial area in Schönenwerd in the Canton of Solothurn. The new premises house the sales organisation as well as the storage and distribution logistics departments. The factory shop is an appealing attraction for the inhabitants of this area. The entire range of Rotel appliances is available for sale in the friendly atmosphere of this light and airy outlet. Rotel AG offers about 30 full-time and 10 part time workplaces. The company sells approximately 400,000 appliances every year, distributing them through both the specialist trade and via the supermarket chains.
